The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) West Newton Advisory Committee will be meeting at NCSC on Thursday evening December 6, 2001 at 7:15 pm. Among the local topics discussed will be Dolan Pond, Ryan Park, the West Parish Burying Ground, and the River Street Playground. These meetings usually will cover any updates on these projects. In particular there will be a progress report on the Dolan Pond Improvement project. If you would like to participate in helping to set priorities for these local federal funds, please attend. The committee meets about every two months. The meeting takes place in the NCSC Adult Day Health Care Room. Enter the left most Waltham Street door at NCSC (492 Waltham Street) and it's the first room on the right.

An interesting presentation on West Newton will take place this evening (Tuesday, December 4) at City Hall cafeteria at 7:30 pm. A group from the MIT architecture department has taken on a study of how our West Newton business district functions. What works and what doesn't and what could be done to improve parking, traffic flow, pedestrian friendliness. The West Newton team is giving one of three presentations (probably the second one) this evening. The first may be on ideas on redesigning Newton Centre so the West Newton part may not start until after 8.
The original presentation was done last month (11/14/01) in the War Memorial Auditorium but the acoustics and attendance were not ideal. Publicity on either that or tonight's event seemed to be minimal. If you can't attend, email your ideas on "fixing" West Newton to the MIT team at "westnewton@mit.edu". We just wanted to give you an alert in case you were interested in this somewhat relevant presentation.
